So much hostility to "anti-hate" laws has been generated
as a result of Philadelphia’s arrest of eleven Christians for "hate
crimes," that a distinct possibility emerges: the Anti-Defamation
League of B'nai B'rith, architect of "anti-hate" laws
worldwide, might lose its nerve. It might not re-introduce its mammoth
federal anti-hate bill, The Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act, as
it has promised in early spring.
Such a defeat for the federal hate bill before it is introduced would
be immeasurably better then waiting to protest after it is introduced.
This is because Congress is strongly inclined to pass this bill. The
House made it clear on Sept. 28th, by a symbolic, procedural vote of
216-183, and the Senate on Oct. 15th by a vote of 65-33, that Congress
supported passage.
